Advertising of cosmetic treatments like CoolSculpting are everywhere, with body sculpting procedures gaining popularity in non-invasive methods for shedding fat. But are they effective for permanent results? The October 2012 issue of Vogue magazine examined this question and weighed in.
Surgery.org posted the magazine’s findings for CoolSculpting and Liposonix, a treatment that uses ultrasound to melt fat. The procedures require about an hour a session, with little (if any) downtime.
CoolSculpting sucks the skin into a rectangular hand piece, then freezes the fat for about hour later until it is massaged into its natural shape. The cells that have been crystallized die off and are metabolized within 2-3 months. Liposonix uses a small hand piece over marked body areas with ultrasound heat.
The lack of commitment and time needed for these procedures has Vogue equating CoolSculpting and Liposonix to the liposuction equivalent of Botox, as the buzz-worthy methods need occasional touch-ups. “None of them (these technologies) produce the dramatic results achieved with liposuction,” the magazine said.
